Matt Cox

Managing Director

Working in the construction industry since 1990, Matt started his career working for commercial building companies London, UK. He then progressed from a site foreman of civil works to a site/project manager of commercial building projects both in the UK and Sydney Australia.

In 2006 Matt was contracted by a national insurance builder to manage their first interstate CAT event. This provided Matt with his first exposure to the insurance rebuilding industry. 

Matt saw an opportunity in the market for an insurance builder that really cared about delivering quality work and building strong relationships with both clients and the end home/property owner. Thus Urban Building Solutions was formed.

Matt has grown UBS from a small Sydney-only business to now servicing NSW and will be expanding into ACT and QLD in 2024 - with over $130 million revenue completed to date.

Future goals are to operate in multiple states across Australia thus creating further opportunities for the existing management team to successfully operate UBS for many decades to come.

Matt is driven by the goal of leaving a legacy and Urban Building Solutions be regarded as the Industry's preferred builder of choice.

He loves his sport, planning the next family holiday and is a keen watch collector. 

Greg Farrugia

Construction Manager

Greg joined UBS as a junior supervisor with 6 years’ experience in shopfitting and joinery within the commercial building industry.  Greg has worked his way up to now manage the construction and restoration division of the company.

While with UBS, Greg completed his builder’s licence and became a class 2 building practitioner becoming highly trained in safety on building and construction sites.

Greg has been an integral part of the growth of UBS. He is driven by the desire to give other people the opportunity he has in growing a successful company and seeing it achieve milestone after milestone.

Greg is a keen soccer player, with 30 years at the same club some say it’s a love affair. He is now coaching his son’s soccer team as well as playing every Saturday.

Tim Lipscomb

Makesafe & Restoration Manager

Tim has over 8 years' experience in the building and construction industry, specialising in restoration and repair works. He joined UBS to expand the Makesafe & Restoration division, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge gained from previous work within in fire and water damage repair.

Tim has spent much of his career living away from home, traveling to locations where he was needed to remediate and restore communities affected by fire and flood.

A career highlight for Tim was being sent to Hobart for over three months to work on a large commercial water loss project, where an entire ground floor of a casino was badly damaged by water.

Tim has a strong desire to help people on their worst days. He wants to assist owners/tenants in restoring the loss they have experienced.

Tim loves his music, going to festivals and concerts as much as he can. 

Nathan Smith

Regional Manager

With over 30 years in the construction industry, Nathan has a broad range of skills and knowledge that he applies to his role as Regional Manager. Initially joining UBS as an Estimator in 2019, he dedicated himself to establish and grow the NSW regional office. Nathan is now an integral part of assisting with the expansion into Southeast QLD.

Nathan began his career in design, graduating with a degree in Architecture, after a year off travelling, he relocated to Melbourne and opened a design showroom working on creating new trends, specialised interiors and custom joinery.

Throughout his Career Nathan has won several awards for Kitchen and Bathroom designs as having his work displayed in magazines and cover shoots.

His focus now is to grow the Regional UBS office into a major division of the company and support his team to thrive and develop in their own careers.

Nathan enjoys spending time out the water, boating as well as some sports fishing.

Hayley Penberthy

Office Manager 

Joining the UBS team in 2020, Hayley was looking for an industry change where she could apply her previous skills and experience..

Hayley has 12 years' experience working in front-line customer service and administration roles, having worked across the hospitality and entertainment industries. Of this time, 5 years was spent working on luxury cruise ships traveling all over the world; before relocating to Sydney to further her education--with a diploma of business administration management.

Her time with UBS has seen Hayley being promoted to Office Manager and empowering her team to achieve their goals and support the overall growth of the business. She plays a key role in the day-to-day operations and fosters a positive work environment.

On her days away from running the busy UBS office, Hayley enjoys spending quality time with her young family getting outdoors exploring Sydney beaches and checking out local craft breweries and restaurants.

Mark Golik

Large Loss Estimator

Mark is a highly skilled Senior Estimator with over 27 years’ experience in the Australian building and construction industry. He started his career as a project manager on the commercial side and moved into the insurance industry.

He joined UBS in 2022 after 16 years at a large insurance builder, he has brought this extensive experience and knowledge into his new role.

Mark prides himself on understanding the more complex projects, working with multiple stakeholders to get the projects overline.

A career highlight was being part of the team that setup an interstate office for a major insurance builder as well as being based in Innisfail for 7 months after Cyclone Larry working to repair and restore the damage.

Mark has a young family and enjoys weekends spending time with his kids.

Jeff Vella

Project Manager 

Jeff has been working in construction for nearly 30 years. He began his career as a motor mechanic, then in 2013 he moved into the building industry and completed Certificates IV in Building and Construction and III in Carpentry in 2015.

Jeff takes great pleasure in educating others and watching them learn. He finds immense satisfaction in seeing them apply what they've learnt and truly succeed in their careers.

Being a part of the UBS team, and seeing the company succeed has brought great pleasure and is a career highlight.

Jeff is driven by his family who encourage him to continue to strive for better and commit to delivering on excellence.

Outside of work life, Jeff has a strong interest in new building ideas and renovations. He has a passion for motor sports and riding his motorcycle
